The paper addresses the constitutional and legislative frameworks regulating volunteer work, going through a review of relevant strategies and policies, and diagnosing the reality of volunteering in Egypt in terms of the size of the volunteer mass, the bodies working in its field, and its patterns and trends. It also reviews opportunities for the growth of volunteer work, most notably political and institutional support, the emergence of a societal culture supportive of the value of volunteering, and openness to new volunteer fields, in addition to discussing the most prominent challenges related to the general context, infrastructure, and the lack of data and evidence-based studies.
This paper comes based on the recommendations of a round table organized by the Misr El Kheir Foundation on the role of civil organizations in supporting green volunteering, which contributes to maximizing the societal impact of volunteer work.
